Delduar Upazila

Delduar Upazila (tangail district) with an area of 184.54 sq is bounded by tangail sadar and basail upazilas, nagarpur upazila on the south, mirzapur upazila on the east, Nagarpur upazila and Tangail sadar upazilas on the west. Main rivers are Dhaleshwari, Lohajang and Elangjani.
Delduar (Town) consists of three mouzas with an area of 10.08 sq km. It has a population of 11833; male 50.01%, female 49.99%. The literacy rate among the town people is 31.7%.

Administration Delduar thana, now an upazila, was established in 1981. It consists of eight union parishads, 129 mouzas, 166 villages. 

Archaeological heritage atiya mosque (eighteenth century).
Religious institutions Mosque 250, temple 40.
Population 175684; male 50.46%, female 49.54%. Muslim 87.41%, Hindu 12.55%, others 0.04%.
Literacy and educational institutions Average literacy 34.4%, male 41% female 26.8%. Educational institutions: college 3, high school 16, government primary school 70, non-government primary school 20.

Main occupations Agriculture 41.47%, fishing 1.27%, agricultural labourer 16.71%, wage labourer 1.87%, handloom 6.77%, industry 3.5%, commerce 10.85%, transport 2.22%, service 7.42%, others 7.92%.
Land use Total cultivable land 12393 hectares; single crop 40%, double crop 30% and treble crop 30%; land under irrigation 75%.
Land control Among the peasants 34% are landless, 20% small, 28% intermediate and 18% rich.
Value of land The market value of the land of the first grade is Taka 12000 per 0.01 hectare.
Main crops Paddy, jute, wheat, sugarcane, mustard seed and potato.
Extinct and nearly extinct crops Sesame, varieties of pulses, sweet potato.
Main fruits Mango, jackfruit, banana, litchi and papaya.
Fisheries, dairies, poultries Fishery 20 and poultry 12.
Communication facilities Roads: pucca 7 km, semi pucca 10 km, mud road 300 km.
Traditional transport Horse carriage, bullock cart, dhuli and patal nauka. These means of transport are either extinct or nearly extinct.
Manufacturies The handloom industry of Pathrail of this upazila is famous both in home and abroad.
Cottege industries Goldsmith 100, blacksmith 30, potteries 300, wood work 100, tailoring 200, welding 50.
Main hats and bazars Main hats and bazars are Delduar, Lauhati and Ruposir Hat.
Main exports Jute, sugarcane, molasses and potato.
NGO activities Operationally important NGOs are brac, proshika, grameen bank, SDS SIDO.
Health centres Upazila health complex 1, satellite clinic 2, family planning centre 8.
